Zoologist(Vet) Role
As a zoologist your task will be to work together with your partner to find out the following information about the animal you have chosen to ensure that they feel at home in their new enclosure. (habitat)

Task One- "The Animals Diet"
· Is the animal a herbivore (plant-eater), a carnivore (meat-eater) or an omnivore (plant and meat eater)?
· What kinds of things do they eat?

· How many times do the animals need to be fed each day?
· Does the animal only need to be fed once a week?
· Does the animal eat during the day or night?
· Will the Keepers need to be careful when feeding this animal?
· Do the Keepers need to secure the animal away so they can put food in the enclosure?

· Where can we find the food we need for the animal?
· Is there anything the animal can not eat?
· How would the animal hunt for food in the wild?

Task Two- "The Animals Behaviour"
·
Is the animal dangerous to humans?

·Does the animal need human affection?
·Does the animal need to have other animal species living with them to socialise?

·
Is the animal an endangered species?
· How does the animal get along with other animal species?
· Who are the animals predators?
· What kind of animals (if any) does the animal prey on?
· How would the animal hunt for food in the wild?
·
How long is the pregnancy length of this animal?
·How many babies can the animal have at one time?

·When is the mating season for this animal?
·
How do the animals clean/groom themselves?
·What are some intereting facts about the animal?

Environmentalist (Eco-warriors) Role
As an environmentalist you task will be to work together with your partner to find out the following information about the animal you have chosen to ensure that they feel at home in their new enclosure. (habitat)

Task One- "Shelter"

· What type of shelter does the animal need/live in? (tree, water, etc)
· Can the animal live in more than one place? (land and sea?)
· Do we need to consider this for the animals habitat when we are designing the enclosures?
· Do the animals need a big drinking area or just a small area?

· Will we need to place a small pond/creek in the enclosure for a drinking/bathing place for the animal?
· Will the animal make their own shelter?
·If the animal does make their own shelter, what will they need in their habitat to make this possible?

· Will the animal need an indoor AND outdoor area in their habitat? Why is this?

Task Two- "Environment"
· What kind of climate does the animal need to have in their environment to live? (hot/cold/warm)
· Why does the animal need that kind of climate in their environment?
·Is there any special things items that we need to buy for the habitat to be complete? (ice, rocks, heat lamp)
· How will we keep the animal in their enclosure? (behind a big fence, glass, have a big gap between the enclosure and humans?)
· Why do we need this type of enclosure for the animal?
· Will the enclosure be inside or outside?

·Does the animal need any objects put in their habitat to excercise/entertain themselves? (tyres/nets/etc)
· How can we make the animal feel like its their own environment if they were in the wild?
·
Where would we find the animal in the wild? (underground, in water, in the air, up a tree, etc?
· What country would we most likely find this animal living?

Group Work Time
Now that you have researched your two animals in pairs, it is time to gather and share all the information you have found out about the two animals with the other students in your group.

Task Three "Writing an Information Report for each of your animals to give to the Zoo Keepers"
As a group you will need to write an information report for each animal that you found information about. The information report, will be used to tell the Zoo keepers about the Diets, eating needs/styles, the shelters, climate, etc about the animal. This is because all the information has been lost about feeding times, pregnancy lengths, socialising aspects of the animals and the zoo keepers would appreciate your help with this. You can base your information report around the questions in which you answered as a zoologist and and eco-warrior.

Task Four "Designing the Habitats on paper"
As you now all know about the two different animals, you will design in your group a draft version on paper, of the enclosures (habitats) you would create for your two chosen animals. These draft versions of the animal enclosure will be given to the Chief Zoo Keeper, so he knows how to build the habitats for the animals.
Your group will need to think about:
·How you will keep the animal from escaping their enclosure
·How they will be fed by the Zoo Keepers
·What type of shelter they need
Basically everything that you have researched will need to be thought about when designing a draft copy of the enclosures.

Task Five "Designing a Dioroma of an Animals Habitat"
·Now that you have drawn examples of the two animal enclosures, you are to pick one animal enclosure to build a diorama for
·The diorama will be placed around the classroom so when the Chief Zoo Keeper visits us to collect our ideas and thoughts, he will be able to see what some of the enclosures will look like in 3D form.
·You will need to create the Diorama so it reflects all the information you have gathered about the animal in regards to shelter, food, climate, etc.
·The diorama design is what the zoo will use as a guide to building the new enclosures, so think carefully about how the habiat needs to look and what needs to be in it to enable

the animal to feel right at home.

Task Six "Presentation of the Diaroma and Speech"
Your group will be asked to show your diorama to your fellow peers, teacher and the Chief Zoo Keeper. You will explain all the information you have gathered about your animals and some interesting facts you have learnt. You will explain which animal habitat you chose to design your diorama on and why your group designed it the way they did. Explaining in detail the animals diet, shelter requirements, behaviour, etc.
